Amelie
Poulain has led a sheltered life - educated at home by over-protective
parents, she retreats into a fantasy world of her own. When she
finally leaves home and finds work as a waitress in a Parisian
café, life is pretty uneventful until a chain of extraordinary
events leads her to the discovery of a tin box containing a schoolboy's
long forgotten mementos. It is then that Amelie discovers her
true vocationin life - helping others find love adn happiness
- which she sets about in her own unique way. When Amelie falls
in love herself, she realizes that making neat solutions is not
as easy as it seems...
Ohh
lovely Amelie! It is the tale of a young woman interested in the
simple things in life. After a sheltered and lonely childhood
she lives alone in Paris and one day finds a box of mementos hidden
by a child back in the 40's. Touched so much by the reaction of
the owner when she secretly returns it to him, she makes it her
mission in life to bring joy to people, and to secretly help sort
out their 'messy' lives. But when she falls in love with the man
of her dreams, who is to help her sort out her 'messy' life and
take the plunge to be with him?
This
film really is fantastic. The colour is full and sumptuous, and
a visual treat. It's the kind of film you should watch when you
have been working late, missed your bus, got soaked in the rain
coming home, stubbed your toes when putting on your slippers and
whacked the side of your head on a cupboard whilst you were making
your favourite dinner, but to call it heart warming and charming
would not be doing it justice.
It's a reminder to us all that we all have an Amelie inside of
us, and perhaps we should let her out once in a while
